Ivan Grand Solberg shortbio
Ivan G. Solberg was accepted a fulltime student at the Royal Music Conservatory of Classical Music in Norway at the age of 15, graduated at 18. Entered GIT at 19, graduated at 20 and have since then been a professionally working musician in either California - USA, Europe, Japan, China/Taiwan - recording, gigging, producing as well as teaching both in private as well as college guitar tutor in Oslo Norway and as both open counsellor and also giving private lessons at GIT, Musicians Institute in Hollywood, California.
Ivan recorded his first cd in Norway featuring top European players such
as Bendik Hofseth of Steps Ahead, Bugge Wesseltoft of Jan Garbarek Group,
Haakon Graf of Graffiti and more in 95. In 98 Ivan recorded Lie Detector in
Hollywood, CA, featuring top LA cats such as Frank Gambale and Virgil
Donati, TJ Helmerich, Brett Garsed, Allen Hinds and Alexis Sklarevski
etc. In 2001/02 Ivan was cooperating with Warner Brothers artist Estima
regularly producing pop and Techno, then for PolyGram records. Among
the results of that cooperation was/is Lene Marlin's top of the billboard and MTV hit - "Sitting down here". Now in HK Motion have a fresh progressive cd out in stores, a tour coming up and will work towards worldwide distribution until that is completed and real, so far ELM in Japan, Curling Legs in Norway and Tone Center in USA have shown their interest, but at this writing moment nothing is settled yet. Along the way Ivan has also been involved in a few movie scores in Norway both as a producer and as a hired guitar player.
Motion have so far headlined the annual jazz festivals in Taipei, Taiwan in 2003 with around 60 thousand people in the audience - then as Ivan G. Solberg quintet - as well as the Nanjing festival in 2004, along with club tours in China. The original line up for Motion is Roel Garcia, Toby Mak, Blaine Whittaker, Anthony Fernandez, Rickard Malmsten and Ivan G. Solberg, and was founded by Rickard and Ivan from the start.
Ivan has since mid 2004 been endorsed 100% by Framus instruments and amplification and do presentations for them around in China occasionally. Since July 2004 I have done a weekly live TV talk show - Jade Solid Gold - playing the local top10 list with the original artists and band leader Kubert Leung and additional TV pop shows with band leader Dominic Chow.
Regardless of all these facts Ivan's actual main field of expertise, musical interest and professional experience so far is progressive improvised music.
