HAMLETO STAMATO TRIO
Speed Samba Jazz

Brazilian popular music reached international prestige at the beginning of the 60’s when the rhythm “Bossa Nova” was adopted by North American jazz musicians making of it a worldwide phenomenon. This success surprised even the most optimistic Brazilians. During the golden ages of the “Bossa Nova” a great deal of small instrumental groups increasingly spread, most of which played in the four clubs of the legendary “Beco das Garrafas”. The style stimulated the appearance of various generations of musicians mostly influenced by jazz adopting its improvisation within the new Brazilian rhythm.

The pianist, composer and musical arranger, Hamleto Starnato is one of these talents proved in his first CD “Speed Samba Jazz” that it is also the first CD launched by BR PLUS registration, studio created by Stamato in partnership with Paulo Henrique Castanheira. Since 1995 the couple have registered great hits such as “Fama” (Fame), “Criança Esperança”, etc.

It is probable that even before his birth in February 11, 1968, in Bebedouro, Sao Paulo, Hamleto was already meant to be a musician as his father, also named Hamleto, who was a brilliant saxophonist and flautist playing on Hermeto Pascual band. His case was not different. Since his childhood he devoted himself perseveringly to the piano. After his father death he moved to Rio de Janeiro and entered the university. In 1988 he became a professional and was quickly recognized as one of the most promising pianist of the new generation.

The trajectory of the musician began with his presentations abroad, further he worked on great productions in musical studios and now he is finally releasing his first CD together with a trio formed by Nei da Conceiçaõ (bass), Wilson Meireles (drum) e Hamleto Stamato (piano musical arrangements and direction).

The fact of including in the repertoire of his first disk only one of his compositions remarks the modesty of the artist. His composition is called “Tema de Academia”- very well known for being part of the soundtrack of the soap opera “Andando nas Nuvens”. The repertoire is completed by jazz classics as “A Night in Tunisia” and “Manhã de Carnaval” from “Bossa Nova”, among others. The most surprising feature of the work is the geniality of improvisations mixed with Samba chords played by talented musicians integrated as a whole without exhibitionism, but with a great enthusiasm.
