When singer Greta Panettieri and saxophonist Emanuele Coluccia, both from Italy, met by happenstance In NYC, it was immediately apparent that they shared a singular vision
of musical improvisation.
After auditioning several rhythm sections Greta and Emanuele found the creative input and empathy they were looking for in pianist Kenneth MacKenzie, bassist Mike Savino and drummer Josiah Wolf.
Since then, the group has been performing in several clubs in and out of Manhattan, showing an original approach to jazz standards and a rather unique sound. Greta's daring and imaginative vocal improvisations, with Emanuele's subtle counterpoint, are the guiding forces that allow the group to venture in ensemble explorations that are
both unusual and beautiful. The JA'Z Quintet is continuously creating music and adding to its repertoire new original compositions.




Greta Panettieri was born in Rome in 1978. She started studying violin when she was 7 years old. After studying classical music for 8 years, she got into jazz, playing keyboard in a funk jazz band; 3 month later she was attending (as a singer) the clinics of the Berklee School in her home town (Perugia) in occasion of Umbria Jazz Festival.
In the next 4 years Greta was studying vocal technique inRome with Cinzis Spats, she was performing at local jazz festivals, clubs such as Contrappunto Jazz Club, Celebrate Cafe, Blue Note in Campobasso, Spello Theater, Rassegna Jazz of Marcane, Corta Maltese (Lecce), Pavona Theater, she was giving vocal classes at "Scienzacomearte" music school of Perugia,she went to Germany and France with the Alberto Bustos -Voci dal Monda Ensemble. As a lead voice of the chorus, while she was still enrolled in high school.
As soon as the school was over she attended the Berklee clinics again and she won a scholarship to go to the Berklee School in Boston. The same year Greta left for Brazil where she spent 2 months travelling, she got to learn Portuguese and how to play several percussions such as berimbau, atabaque, pandeiro, tambourine, improving her skills in Brazilian music.
In April 2000 Greta got to New York City for the first time.
After 3 months in NYC Greta got to perform steadily in a jazz club in the West Village, collaborating with jazz musicians, visual artists, djs, she got 4 nights show at the Joyce theater (NYC) and 4 nights show at P.S. 122 (NYC) with the "Ameye company.; she sang at the opening night of the Brooklyn Film Festival, and performed around in the city and upstate New York.
Right now she lives in NYC pursuing a recording and performing career.

Emanuele Coluccia began studying music at the age of 6, as part of his early education. Receiving flute lessons and learning the basics of musical theory. When he was eight, he started studying classical piano and harmony at the Music Conservatory. At the age of 13, he began listening and getting closer to jazz music; this led him to quit the classical studies one year later t to get deeper into the jazz improvisation and composition. When he was 18 he started studying the saxophone, developing his own technique and approach to the instrument.
In 1992 and 1993, he took part to the Berklee College summer clinics in Perugia, Italy, attending workshops with Joe Lovano, Joe Zawinul, Paul Morian, Bill Frisel',
John MacLaughlin, George Garzone.
He has been performing in Italy since 1989 in many groups both as a sideman and as a leader. From then to 1991 he performed with a Latin-Jazz band touring the south of Italy. His experience includes many kinds of music, from Jazz to Funk and Rock. He took part to the Jonian Jazz Festival in Taranto, 1992, Eddie Lang Jazz Festival in Iserniat 1997, Estate Romans, live music festival in Rome, 1998, in which occasions he performed his own music.
During Umbria Jazz 1999, he took part to live improvisational performances with Jason Moran, Taurus Mateen, Eric Harland and Pat Metheny. He also wrote music for short movies, dance shows and multimedia events, exploring the field of electronic sounds and styles.
He is now in NYC since the end of' 1999, performing in many clubs, in and out of Manhattan. Among which are: St. Nick's, Ghishen Cafe, Cafe Creole, Don't Tell Mama, Cleopatra's Needle, Lounge 32, Arturo's.
Other performances are: Brooklyn Film Festival 2001, with his quintet; German Consulate, 2002, with Matthias Mainz.
