Toby has been playing the trumpet for 16 years and has been working steadily as an in-demand freelance musician since he graduated from high school in 1995. A student of legendary Motown arranger Gil Askey, he commenced studies at the Victorian Collage of the Arts in 1996. In 1997 he was a finalist at the Wangaratta International Jazz Brass competition and since then has been an established member of the jazz community. Toby has spent time abroad, playing and studying in New York, Hong Kong and New Caledonia. He has played at most of the major Australian jazz festivals and in 2001 released his debut album "Joyfull' on the Newmarket label. Toby has performed in bands of many different styles, from Cuban 'Son' to swinging big bands, but is known mainly as a jazz soloist. At the current time Toby heads his own jazz quartet and his own Latin jazz ensemble "The Latin Bit" and plans to travel to Shanghai and back to New York later in the year.
