Cherryl Hayes from Indianapolis U.S.A. is one of the few vocalist that has the ability to improvise using a technique called scat. Scat singing is simply the voice imitating the sound of an instrument and allows the singer to have more freedom and to improvise just like a trumpet or a saxophone. A few pioneers of scat include Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald and the singers’ singer Sarah Vaughan.
Cherryl’s gift has taken her around the world. Istanbul, Shanghai, New York, and California are just some of the places she has performed. Also she has appeared in numerous musicals, Jazz festivals and even sang for the queen of Thailand at The Grand Palace in 1998.
